The Best of the West
THE BEST OF THE WEST
(2011-2016)
Television Series.
I worked at The Best of the West for just about five years. It was a great job, and I loved the people I worked with. This is just a little reel showcasing some of the work I was able to do there. I started as an editor and camera operator, and ended up being the shows producer. I still edit for them from time to time.
THE BEST OF THE WEST OPENING TITLES (2012)
Title Sequence.
Directed by: Matthew Taggart
Additional Camerawork: Noah Layton
Music: Dirk Johnson
This was the title sequence I was most proud of.
I was able to conceptualize, storyboard and then shoot pretty much everything I wanted to. It was nominated for a Golden Moose. A ton of fun to shoot, and despite my initial dislike of the heavy sepia tone, I think it turned out great!
THE BEST OF THE WEST OPENING TITLES (2015)
Title Sequence.
Directed by: Matthew Taggart
Additional Camerawork: Terence Knudsen
Music: Sean Reilly
This was the last title sequence I fully created for The Best of the West for the 2014-2015 season. 26 episodes.
MERRY CHRISTMAS (2011)
Commercial
Directed and Written by: Matthew Taggart
Starring: Sara Miller and Matt Scott
Camera: Noah Layton
This was the first commercial I was asked to create for The Best of the West. This is very out of the ordinary for their usual commercials, and demonstrates how much creative freedom they gave me.
HUSKEMAW CANADA (2012)
Commercial
Directed and Written by: Matthew Taggart
Starring: David Gilliat
Music: Sean Reilly
This was another fun one to make. I had to argue for the line: "Where the Best of the West meets the Great White North". I guess it's the Bob and Doug McKenzie in me that really wanted that line. Hosers. Also, if you are ever in Wyoming and need home owners insurance, stop by and see Dave in Powell.
HUSKEMAW 1x6 SCOPE (2014)
Commercial
Directed and Written by: Matthew Taggart
Additional Camerawork: Terence Knudsen
Most commercials for outdoor products feature country rock and loud NASCAR race announcer types. I thought it would set us apart if we used a British voice over with classical music. The end result worked quite nicely and sales proved the effectiveness of the commercial itself.
HUSKEMAW PRODUCTS (2014)
Commercial
Directed and Written by: Matthew Taggart
Additional Camerawork: Terence Knudsen
The things that work in this commercial work well, but to be honest, there are still parts I'm not thrilled with. We had a blast filming with Lloyd Hill, Sim Stoddard, Latt Durrance, Joe Cunningham and Dan Adler, but the tactical readout section looks weak to me.
Lost Dogs and Other Random Videos
THE MAKING OF SOCORRO
Behind the scenes featurette.
Camera and editing by: Matthew Taggart
Music: Sean Reilly
I was lucky enough to work on the behind the scenes
video for the short film Socorro. This was a wonderful project to work on, with an incredibly talented cast and crew. In this video, the curtain is pulled back so to speak, and we are able to see what goes into a production of
this nature.
